Location Lat 1° 16' 6S Long 116° 53' 40E Sepinggang Airfield is located to the south of Sepinggang on the southeast coast of Borneo east of Balikapan. Prewar and during the Pacific War located in Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Today located in East Kalimantan Province in Indonesia. Construction Built by the Dutch prewar as an airfield to support oil exploration in the Balikapan area. Wartime History Used by the Japanese. American missions against Sepinggang January 8, 194–July 9, 1945 During early July 1945, occupied by the Australian Army and quickly repaired. On July 3, 1945 the first Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Auster took off from Sepinggang Airfield. Used by the Allies until the end of the Pacific War. Today Still in use today as a civilian airport. The single runway is oriented 25/07 and measures 8,185' x 148' surfaced with asphalt. Airport codes: IATA: BPN, ICAO: WALL.
