    Wellington Airfield (Rongotai) North Island New Zealand
Location
Lat 41° 19' 38S Long 174° 48' 19E. Wellington Airfield is located to the south of Wellington at the southern tip of the North Island of New Zealand.

Construction
Built by 1929 as a grass surfaced runway. Officially opened as a airfield during 1935 as Rongotai Airfield.

Wartime History
During World War II, used by the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF).

Postwar
On September 27, 1947, closed due to safety reasons because the runway often became unusable during winter months. During the closure, Paraparaumu Airport, 35 miles north of Wellington, became Wellington's main airport and New Zealand's busiest during 1949.

Today
Today, known as Wellington International Airport or Wellington Airport. The single runway is oriented 34/16 measures 6,352' x 148' surfaced with asphalt. Airport codes: ICAO: NZWN IATA: WLG.
