Location Lat 43° 33' 4S 172° 33' 10E Wigram Airfield is located at an elevation of 74' above sea level at Wigram to the west of Wigram and to the east is Christchurch on the South Island of New Zealand. Wartime History During World War II, used by the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) as a military airfield and based the Central Flying School (CFS). Postwar Continued to be used by the RNZAF. Also known as Wigram Air Base (Wigram AB). Or RNZAF Wigram. Today In 1993, Central Flying School relocated to Base Ohakea. In 1995 the Central Flying School closed at this location. Today bases three RNZAF training corps, cadet corps and other aviation businesses. On the north side of the airfield is the Royal New Zealand Air Force Museum (Air Force Museum of New Zealand, RNZAF Museum). Still in use today as Wigram Airport operated by Wigram Aerodrome Ltd. with three runways. The first is oriented 21L/03R measures 5,184' x 98' surfaced with asphalt. The second is oriented 21R/03L measures 3291' x 164' surfaced with grass. The third is oriented 31/13 measures 3445x115 surfaced with grass. Airport code: ICAO: NZWG. Contribute
