Location Lat 6° 1' 27S Long 144° 58' 14E Chimbu Airfield is located in the Highlands at an elevation of 4,974' north of Kundiawa in Chimbu Province (Simbu) in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Also known as Simbu Airfield. Construction Built prewar. Wartime History In middle 1942 the single runway measured 800 yd x 90 yd x 5100' with poor approaches with cliff at each end. Missionary Mr. Mannerman was based here. Food and two European houses plus native buildings and empty fuel drums. L-5 Sentinal Serial Number ? Pilot Stalone crashed April 15, 1944 Today Still in use today as "Chimbu Airport". The single runway is oriented 21/03 measures 3,330' x 89' surfaced with asphalt.
