Enlargement of bombs exploding on the southern edge of Kara Airfield on southern Bougainville
The upper edge of the photo is south and the lower edge is north. Bombed by nineteen B-24D Liberator that dropped a total of 152 x 1,000 pounds on the runway area. Their raid was followed by thirty SBD Dauntless dive bombers, twenty-four TBF Avengers and twenty B-25D Mitchells from 42nd Bombardment Group (42nd BG) from two squadrons.
