Location
Yule Airfield is located to the north of Chiria village parallel to the western coast in roughly the center of Yule Island. Also known as "Yule Island Airfield". Today located in Central Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG).
Construction
By late 1943, a single runway was built at this location for use by light aircraft.
World War II Pacific War History
During 1943,
RAAF Air Transport Service, 33 Squadron flew supplies and personnel aboard light aircraft including DH.84 Dragon, Avro Anson and Tiger Moths from their base at 12 Mile Drome (Berry).
During early February 1943, RAAF 33 Squadron Tiger Moth A17-565 piloted by Sgt Black landed at Yule Airfield delivering 370 pounds of freight.
Today
Still in use today for local flights. Airport code: RKU.
