Personal effects of British Prisoners Of War (POWs) found with skeletal remains in a mass grave on Ballale Island reviewed by Australian Army investigators on on Fauro Island
AWM Caption: "Fauro Island, Bougainville area. 1945-11-12. Equipment and personal possessions of Allied [British] Prisoners Of War who were killed on Ballalae [Ballale], found with some of the recovered bodies. The atrocities commission is carrying out investigations on the island." The recovered personal effects appear to include a harmonica, drinking cup, small jug and container laid atop a blanket.
