Aerial view eastward over Henderson Field on Guadalcanal
In the lower right is the wing of the SBD Dauntless dive bomber this photograph was taken from. At the center left is "The Pagoda" on Pagoda Hill. This photograph was taken sometime prior to October 14, 1942 when the structure was deliberately torn down. At the airfield are parked aircraft including F4F Wildcats and circular holes are bomb craters that have been filled. At the top of the photograph are coconut palm trees in rows in the Lever brothers plantation at Lunga and in the distance is the north coast of Guadalcanal and beyond Iron Bottom Sound.
