AOM Jim Dolan of VS-54 adds: "I was based at Cactus (Henderson) from June 11, 1943 and departed on August 3, 1944. We had OS2U Kingfishers on wheels, no floats and also the SBD Dauntless. We flew mostly ASW flights. Filled in some dive bombing strikes. We participated in protecting the convoy's going North. The Japs flew a lot of night raids trying to hit Ammunition dumps. We had a 100 plane raid on June 16th in the afternoon,1943. We had Army Air Corp B 24's and Royal New Zealand Air Force operating with us."
