    Hill Field (Hill AFB) Utah United States
Location
Lat 41°07′26″N Long 111°58′22″W  Hill Field is located in northern Utah near Ogden. Today known as Hill AFB.

Construction
During the middle 1930s, surveyed as the site of an airfield, for a suitable location for the permanent western terminus of the air mail service. In July 1939, Congress appropriated $8 million for the establishment and construction of the "Ogden Air Depot" opened on November 7, 1940.

Naming Honors
Named in honor of Major Ployer Peter Hill, Chief of the Flying Branch of the U.S. Army Air Corps Material Division of Wright Field, Dayton, Ohio. Major Hill had died as a result of injuries he received from the crash of the Boeing Aircraft Company's experimental aircraft Boeing Model 299 at Wright Field, the prototype airplane for what became B-17 Flying Fortress. During World War II, known as "Hill Field".

Wartime History
During World War II, this airfield became a key maintenance and supply base for the United States Army Air Force (USAAF). Also to repair damaged fighter and bomber aircraft for structural repairs, engine overhauls and storage of spare parts. During 1943, the base employed 22,000 military and civilian employees.

During 1944 into the 1950s, Hill Field became responsible for the long-term storage of surplus aircraft and their support equipment, including antiquated or outdated types. Storage of excess P-40 Warhawk, P-47 Thunderbolt, B-24 Liberators and B-29 Superfortress bombers.

Postwar
On February 5, 1948 renamed "Hill Air Force Base" and also known as "Hill AFB". During the Korean War, Hill AFB was assigned a major share of the Air Material Command's logistical effort to support the Korea War, overhauling warplanes from storage, renovated them, and added them to active-service USAF flying squadrons.

Today
Starting in the 1960s until the present day, Hill AFB began to perform the maintenance support for jets, air combat missile systems and air-to-ground rockets. Airport codes: IATA: HIF, ICAO: KHIF, FAA LID: HIF. The single runway measures 13,508' surfaced with asphalt concrete.
