USN 1945
Location
Lat 16°43′43″N Long 169°32′03″W  Johnston Airfield is located on Johnston Island in Johnston Atoll. Still in use today as Johnston Island Air Force Base (Johnston Islad AFB).

Construction
During September 1941, construction of Johnson Airfield began on Johnston Island with the construction of a single 4,000' x 500' runway with supporting facilities including a barracks, two mess halls, cold storage building, underground hospital, fresh water plant plus other buildings for storage and was completed by early December 1941.

Wartime History
During the middle of December 1941, Johnston based two plane detachments from U.S. Navy (USN) Patrol Wing 1 (PatWing 1) and Patrol Wing 2 (PatWing 2). During the Pacific War used as part of the aircraft ferry route from Hawaii to the South Pacific including regular flight operated by Naval Air Transport Service (NATS).
