Location
Lat 48.29 N Long 122.63 W located to the northwest of Seattle on a peninsula of Whidbey Island bordering Oak Harbor and Crescent Harbor.
Construction
The US Navy commissioned a seaplane base at this location during 1942. This base plus Ault Field, comprised Naval Air Station Whidbey Island. A larger 240' x 160' hangar was built.
Wartime History
Based PBY Catalinas during late 1942. Based PBM Mariners during 1944. Used until the early 1950s, based VP-50 in 1956.
Today
As of 2005, a group called the PBY Memorial Foundation is trying to raise funds to construct a hangar in Oak Harbor to display a restored PBY Catalina seaplane.
