Location Lat 28° 6' 10N Long 80° 38' 43W NAS Valkaria is located in Grant-Valkaria in Brevard County in Florida in the United States of America. Today known as Valkaria Airport X59. Construction During World War II, built by the U.S. Navy (USN) as an auxiliary airfield to support fighter training at NAS Melbourne. Wartime History Used for flight training by F4F Wildcats and later the F6F Hellcats. For training purposes, the outline of a carrier flight deck was painted on the runway so pilots could practice landings with an Landing Signal Officer (LSO) on the ground guiding them to land. Today Still in use today Valkaria Airport X59 a private airport with uncontrolled air space (no control tower). Used by private aircraft and for flight training.
