Location Ipswich Cemetery was located in Manson Park in Ipswich (Ipswitch) in Queensland in Australia. Wartime History During May 1942 U.S. Forces In Australia (USFIA) established a military cemetery at Manson Park in Ipswich (Ipswitch). Known as Ipswich Cemetery, Ipswich USAF Cemetery Brisbane or Ipswich USAF Cemetery Brisbane or Ipswich US Cemetery. By the end of World War II, burials from elsewhere in Australia and New Guinea were consolidated to this cemetery with the total number of graves reaching 1,260. By the late 1940s all the American graves were exhumed and transported to the United States for permanent burial. Today The former Ipswich Cemetery is now known as Manson Park in honor of Mrs. Rose Manson who tended to the graves during World War II. A heritage place marker was placed at this location that reads: "Heritage Place - Manson Park an initiative of Ipswich City Council - During the Second World War a cemetery was established on this site for American serviceman. Many American serviceman died or were killed in action in Australia or South East Asia. Burials commenced in May 1942 and continued throughout the war with the final number of interned reaching 1260.
