THURSDAY, 13 SEPTEMBER 1945

Australian Army: Japanese Army 18th Army commander Lt. General Hatazo Adachi officially surrenders the Japanese Army forces under his command at Cape Wom Airfield the ceremony is observed by 3,000 from 6th Division. Afterwards, he attended meetings with Australian Army staff to discuss arrangements related to the surrender.

Royal Australian Navy: On Nauru Island Japanese garrison of roughly 500 represented by IJA Captain Hisayuki Soeda and IJN Lieutenant Commander Kishimoto officially surrenders aboard HMAS Diamantina (K377). Afterwards, Australian forces occupy Nauru Island.
