FRIDAY, 5 OCTOBER 1945
IJN: Hōshō and Kashima were officially removed from the Navy List and turned over to the Allies for use as a transport to repatriate Japanese Prisoners Of War (POW) and civilians from overseas back to Japan.
USN/USMC: In a ceremony outside The White House, U.S. President Harry S. Truman presents to the Medal of Honor to three U.S. Navy (USN) recipients including PM2C George E. Wahle and HA1 Robert E. Bush plus eleven U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) recipients including Private Wilson D. Watson and Pfc Jacklyn H. Lucas.
