Background
The 127mm Anti-Aircraft Gun Type 89 (1929) also known as 12.7cm gun (5" gun) was the largest Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) anti-aircraft / dual purpose gun, also known as 12.7cm gun.  Mounted in single or dual mounts. This gun was semi-automatic, with a horizontal wedge type breech block, automatic rammer and fuse setter. The traverse and elevation were powered by an electric motor. Originally designed for use on ships, this gun could also be installed on land. Some guns had a large shield.
