155mm
GPF Howitzer
Technical Information
Background
The 155mm GPF (Grande Puissance Filloux) howitzer was a French design license built by the U.S. Army. These guns were modified to fit onto "Panama
Mounts" a concrete gun emplacement developted in Panama for coastal defense in the Canal Zone (C.Z.). Later in World War II, these guns were replaced by 155mm "Long Tom" Howitzers with 50% greater range but some remained in use until the end of the Pacific War.
