Location Wartime History American missions against Beaufort After the Australian Army landings on the northern reaches of Brunei Bay, they planned a northern drive on Beaufort, by the 2/43rd Battalion less the 2/11th Commando Squadron and one troop of 2/12th Field Regiment and a detachment of 2/16th Field Company. On June 25, 1945 patrols of 2/43rd Battalion moved unopposed to reach Woodford Estate, to the west of Beaufort, and also a point on the railway line three miles to the south-west of Beaufort. Troops moved north of Beaufort in a wide outflanking movement, and others struck bitter resistance from the Taps in positions northeast of the town. On June 28, 1945 before midday, all organised resistance in Beaufort ceased, and 2/43rd Battalion fought into the town, capturing much Japanese equipment. While mopping up was still going on Australian forces began to spread along the railway lines, 2/28th Battalion pushing north and 2/32nd Battalion patrolling southward on the Weston line. Contribute
