Location Lat 9° 30' 52N Long 138° 7' 45E Colonia is located on the southern end of Yap Island in Yap State in the Federated State of Micronesia. Also known as Yap Town, Yaptown Doanguuc, Korronii, Kolonie, Yappu, Wa'ab or Wa'ab. Wartime History During the Pacific War, Colonia was occupied by the Japanese until the official surrender of Japan on September 2, 1945. American missions against Colonia April 1, 1944 - August 10, 1944 Colonia Airfield (Yap Airport) Built by the Japanese, still in use today as Yap Airport.
