Location
Lat 17° 48' 11S Long 177° 24' 58E Nadi is located on
the western central coast of Viti Levu Island in Ba Province in Western Province of Fiji (Republic of Fiji). Nadi is the national capital. Sometimes incorrectly spelled "Nandi" in wartime documents.
Wartime History
During the middle of 1952, U.S. Navy 3rd Construction Battalion (Seabees) Company C small-boat landing at Vunda Point at Nadi Bay. On March 1, 1943 an echelon of the U.S.
Army 23rd Infantry Division (23rd ID) Americal Division was based in Fiji until April 10, 1943.
Nadi Airfield (Viti Levu, Nadi International Airport)
Wartime airfield used on ferry route, still in use today as Fiji's International Airport
Hindu Temple
This Hindu Temple is located at the junction of the Nadi-Lautoka by-pass about five miles from Nadi Airport. This location is tourist attraction for visiting air crews during the war.
