Location
Lat 23° 28' 45N Long 120° 26' 56E  Chiayi is located in Chiayi County in the Southern Taiwan Region of the center eastern coast of Taiwan (Formosa). During the Japanese colonial era and Pacific War known as Kagi or Kagi Town. Today known as Chiayi or Chiayi City. In Chinese 嘉義市. Also known as Jiayi, Jiayi Shi, Jiayi Shih, Chia-i-hsien, Chia-i and Chia-i-shih.

Wartime History
During World War II, Kagi was occupied by the Japanese for the duration of the Pacific War until the official surrender of Japan in September 1945. Kagi had a rail road marshalling yard and oil plant (butanol plant) to the west. During 1945, attacked by American fighters and bombers.
