Location
Lat 24° 4' 26N Long 120° 32' 18E  Changhua is located at an elevation of 108' / 32m in Changhua County on Taiwan (Formosa) in the Western Taiwan Region. Changhua is the county seat of Changhua County. During the Japanese colonial era and World War II known as Shoka. Today known as Changhua or Changhua City. Also spelled Zhanghua and in Chinese 彰化市.

Prewar
During the Japanese colonial era known as Shoka and developed with rail yards.

Wartime History
During World War II, Shoka was occupied by the Japanese for the duration of the Pacific War until the official surrender of Japan in September 1945. During 1945, Shoka was attacked by American bombers and fighters.
