Location
Lat 22° 45' 36N Long 121° 8' 41E  Taitung is the county seat of Taidong County on the eastern coast of Taiwan (Formosa) in the Southern Taiwan Region. During the Japanese colonial era and Pacific War known as Taito. Today known as Taitung or Taitung City. Known in Chinese as 臺東市. Also known as Taidong, T'ai-tung Shih, T'ai-tung-hsien, Taitung, T'ai-tung, T'ai-tung-chen, Tchaj-tung and Tchaj-tung.

Wartime History
During World War II, Taito was occupied by the Japanese for the duration of the Pacific War until the official surrender of Japan in September 1945. During 1945, attacked by American fighters and bombers.
