(JAAF) Japanese bomb Calcutta, damaging dock area and destroyed Howrah Bridge and hitting airfields.
December 24, 1942
(JAAF) During the night, Japanese bombers including Ki-21 Sallys from 14th Sentai bomb Calcutta.
December 5, 1943
(JAAF) Forty Japanese planes bomb Calcutta. They target the Port of Calcutta damaging the rail road tracks, underground communications lines, warehouses and buidlings and kill 560 civilians. U.S. freighter SS William Whipple is straddled and holed with fragments. There are no casualties among the 42-man merchant crew, but one man of the 28-man Armed Guard is injured. Two bombers were shot down and four claimed as probables.
December 26, 1943
(JAAF) A
Ki-46 Dinah reconnaissance aircraft overflew Baigachi and was shot down.
