Location Lat 3° 41' 45S Long 128° 10' 60E Ambon is located at an elevation of 393' / 119m above sea level on the north coast of Ambon Island. During the Pacific War, also known as Ambon Town, Ambun, Amboyna or Amboina. In Japanese known as Amboyna. Borders Ambon Bay (Bay of Ambon or Amboina Harbor). Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Today located in Maluku Province (Moluccas Islands) in Indonesia. Ambon City is divided into five districts: Nusaniwe, Sirimau, Ambon Bay, Gulf Baguala and South Leitimu. Wartime History During early February 1942 occupied by the Japanese until the offical surrender of Japan. During late 1945, occupied by the Australian Army. In a dump area near the wharf they discovered Universal Carrier LP2 1035 and Universal Carrier LP2 1022 in Japanese markings that was later recovered and shipped back to Australia.
