Location Kai Island is located at the center of the Kai Island Group (Kai Islands). Also spelled Kei Island. To the northeast is Doelah Island (Dulah) and beyond to the east is Langgoer Island (Langgur). Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Today located in Maluku Province (Provinsi Maluku) of Indonesia. Wartime History On July 27, 1942 during Operation "T", the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) Kouichiro 24th Special Base Force under the command of Rear Admiral Hatakeyama Kouichiro lands on Kai Island but were repulsed on July 28, 1942. The Japanese land additional reinforcements and with air cover by F1M2 Petes from Sanyo Maru and by July 29, 1942 occupy the island. During 1944 targeted by Allied bombers. Japanese forces occupy Kai until the official surrender of Japan in September 1945. American missions against Kai Islands April 17, 1944–August 17, 1944 Fan (Faan) Faan is locate on the east coast of Kai island includes Faan Airfield. Letfoear Ketfoear is located in the western center of Kai Island includes Letfoear Airfield.
