Location Cyclops is located near the north coast of New Guinea. In Dutch known as Cijcloop. Borders the Cyclops Mountains to the north and Lake Sentani to the south. To the east is Hollandia (Jayapura). Located on the prewar Depopre-Aerodrome Track. Prewar and during the Pacific War, located in Dutch New Guinea (DNG) in the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Between 1963-2002 part of Irian Jaya. Today located in Jayapura Regency in Papua Province in Indonesia. Wartime History During April 1942 occupied by the Japanese Army who built Cyclops Airfield at this location as a military airfield. In late April 1944, liberated by the U.S. Army and used as a base area and airfield until the end of the Pacific War. Cyclops Airfield (Cyclops Drome) Built by the Japanese occupied by U.S. Army on April 26, 1944 General MacArthur's HQ (GHQ Hill) The tallest hill near Hollandia. After the occupation of Hollandia, General MacArthur's HQ and bunker were built at this location. He used it from the middle of 1944 until the invasion of the Philippines. It offers a commanding view over the area. Today, there is a monument atop the hill. Contribute
