(7th AF) B-24s fly a photographic reconnaissance missions over Abemama

May 26, 1943
(7th AF) Three B-24's from Canton fly a reconnaissance-bombing mission over Abemama. Bombs are dropped on a barracks area.

May 28, 1943
(7th AF) Three B-24's from Canton fly a reconnaissance-bombing mission over Abemama, dropping six 500 pound bombs.

September 18, 1943
(7th AF) B-24's, flying out of Funafuti and Canton bomb Abemama during the night of 18/19 Sep. This action is part of a coordinated AAF-USN attack on Tarawa, aimed at preventing Japanese attacks on US installations at Baker and in the Ellice.
(USN) A three-carrier task force (Rear Admiral C. A. Pownall attacks Abemama

September 19, 1943
(7th AF) B-24's, out of Funafuti and Canton, bomb Abemama.

November 21, 1943
(USN) USS Nautilus (SS-168) lands a U.S. Marine reconnaissance company from the 5th Amphibious Corps on the southeast of Abemama.

November 24, 1943
(USMC) Marines landed on Apamama and overcame minor resistance from the Japanese. On November 28, 1943 the 95th Naval Battalion Seabees (95th NCB) landed and began building Apemama Airfield.
