Location
Cook Strait is located between the North Island and South Island of New Zealand. Borders Wellington on the southern coast of the North Island and Blenheim on the north coast of the South Island.

Wartime History
On February 16, 1943 on a patrol, Japanese submarine I-10 transits the Cook Strait. On February 23, 22, 1943 intercepted radio messages indicate I-10 will transit the Cook Strait and RNZAF planes search but fail to find the enemy submarine. In fact, it transited a week prior.
