Four New Guinea Air Warning Wireless Company (NGAWW) spotters in their tent at Deniki
(Left to right) R. Pardy, S. Savage, B. P. "Spud" Murphy and C. Turnbull. The men remained on duty continuously, often under fire, often without rations for days, transmitting messages of their own signal traffic and for the 2/21st Infantry Brigade. Their station moved on at least six occasions before they their transmitter was lost due to gunfire at Deniki. Previously, Murphy and Turnbull each earned the Military Medals for "Courage and resourcefulness at Kokoda in July 1942".
