(Japanese Army) During the night, the Japanese Army 18th Army 89th Infantry Regiment and 78th Infantry Regiments crossed the Driniumor River roughly two kilometers inland from the coast and attacked the U.S. line on the western side starting the Battle of the Driniumor River.
(U.S. Army) During the night, the U.S. line on the western side of the Driniumor River defended by the 32nd Infantry Division and 112th Cavalry Regiment at Afua is attacked starting the Battle of the Driniumor River.
July 17, 1944
(FEAF) A-20s, B-25s, and P-39s hit troop concentrations and supplies between Aitape and Wewak at Abau, Parakaviu, Nyaparake, Driniumor River and bomb Boram Airfield and Cape Moem.
