Location
Lat 4° 25' 60S Long 152° 20' 60E Kabanga Bay is located at Kabanga on the eastern coast of the Gazelle Peninsula of New Britain. Pronounced "Kar-bunga Bay". To the east borders St. Georges Channel. To the south is Warangoi. Beyond to the northwest is Rabaul. Prewar and during the Pacific War part of the New Britain District in the Territory of New Guinea. Today located in East
New Britain Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG).
Wartime History
During 1942 until the end of the Pacific War occupied by the Japanese. Used by barges and small ships. During 1943-1944 U.S. aircraft flying from Bougainville and the northern Solomons often flew over flew Kabanga Bay inbound or outbound of missions over the Rabaul area. On March 5, 1944 attacked by P-40s and USN fighters that hit barges at Kabanga Bay.
