Location
Kieta District encompassed Bougainville plus surrounding islands and atolls. Between 1884 until September 1914 part of Deutsch Neu Guinea (German New Guinea). Prewar and during World War II the Kieta District was located in the Territory of New Guinea (TNG). Postwar, the Territory of New Guinea and Territory of Papua were combined into Papua New Guinea (PNG). On September 16, 1975 became Bougainville Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). On June 25, 2002 became the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB).
