Location Lat 8° 31' 60S Long 150° 18' 0E Kitava Island is located to the east of Kiriwina Island in the Trobriand Islands. Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Territory of Papua. Today located in the Milne Bay Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Wartime History Kitava Island was overflown by Japanese and Allied aircraft during the early months of the Pacific War. In early June 1942 Kitava Island was visited by MV Laurabada with 27 Australian Army militia men aboard including Lt. Mac Rich and Lt Cdr Ivan Champion.
