Location Lat 5° 37' 29S Long 151° 27' 13E Malmal is located at an elevation of 6' / 1m above sea level on the south coast of New Britain. Wartime spelling "Mal Mal". Also known as Malmal Mission, Palmalmal or Pal Mal Mal. Borders Jacquinot Bay to the east. Between 1884–1914 located in the Deutsch Neu Guinea (German New Guinea). Prewar and during the Pacific War part of the Territory of New Guinea. Today, located in the East New Britain Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Prewar Palmalmal Plantation (Pal Mal Mal) was established at this location growing palm trees for copra. Also established at Mal Mal (Malmal) was a Catholic Mission run by Father Edward Charles "Ted" Harris. Wartime History Occupied by the Japanese. During the middle of June 1943, the Japanese executed two American Prisoners Of War (POWs) Pfc Charles H. Green, Jr. and TSgt Thomas H. Fox. Both were injured after surviving the crash crash of B-17E "Texas #6" 41-9207 on June 1, 1943 and were captured then taken to Mal Mal and executed. During 1943, the Palmalmal area was targeted by Allied bombers and fighters. Allied missions against Malmal (Mal Mal, Palmalmal) November 1943 During August 1944, the Australian Army 6th Brigade lands at Jacquinot Bay and occupied the area including Malmal and developed into a base area. Postwar During 1946, a RAAF Searcher Team led by S/L Keith Rundle conducted investigations at Mal Mal and learned about the execution of the two Americans. Contribute
