Location
Torishima Island (Torishima Retto) is located in the Kurile Islands (Chishima-Rettō). To the west is Paramushir Island (Paramushiro, Paramushiru). Prewar and during the Pacific War part of Japan. Between August 15, 1945 until December 26, 1991 part of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR, Soviet Union). Today known as Ostrova Ptich'i (Острова Птичьи) in Sakhalin Oblast in Russia.
