Location
Seychelles is located in the Indian Ocean roughly 932 miles / 1,500 kilometers east of Africa. Comprised of with 115 islands, the largest is Mahé Island with the capital Victoria. Nearby island countries and territories include the Maldives, Comoros, Madagascar. To the south is Mauritius, and the French overseas departments of Mayotte and Réunion to the south and the Chagos Archipelago to the east. Prewar and during the Pacific War, the Seychelles Islands were a British colonly. On June 29, 1976 gained independence from United Kingdom as the Republic of Seychelles. Today, the Seychelles is the smallest country in Africa and the least populated.
