Location Lat 21° 8' 22S Long 175° 12' 6W Nukualofa is located on the north coast of Tongatapu (Western Tongatapu) in the Tonga Island Group. Also known as "Nuku'alofa". Borders to the north Nukualofa Harbor / Tongatapu Harbor to the north. Pronounced "Nuke-ahh-lofa". Wartime History On May 10, 1942 the first U.S. Navy (USN) convoy and personnel landed at Nukualofa. The 1st Construction Battalion (Seabees) built the main wharf. Nukualofa Harbor Seaplane Base Seaplane operating in Tongatapu Harbor with shore facilities at Nukualofa.
