Location
Ulalu Island is a small island located at roughly the center of Truk Lagoon in Chuuk State (Truk) in the Federated States of Micronesia. The island has a hill with an elevation of 166'. To the southeast is Udot Island. To the southwest is Tol Island. To the west is Kuli Island and Faleasies Island. Further to the east is White Sand Island.
Wartime History
The Japanese installed a Radio Direction Finder (RDF) with three masts near the center of the island to assist aircraft flying to the area. This station was manned by 68 men of the 4th Communications Unit. Also. 4th Civilian Engineer Department based 227 men and 40 Army personnel.
