Boris Ilchenko
North Pacific World War II Researcher and Author
Boris Ilchenko was born in Kamchatka in the Far East of Russia. His interest in World War II began hearing stories from his namesake grandfather who was a veteran of the August 18, 1945 amphibious landing on Shumshu Island (Shimushu) as a member of an 82mm mortar crew. This landing was part of Kuril'skaya Desantnaya Operaciya (Kurile's Landing Operation) and was the last battles of World War II in the Pacific.
Since then, Ilchenko researches and writes about the war in the North Pacific with an interest in Kamchatka, Kurile Islands (Kuril Islands) and the Aleutian Islands. His interest include Japanese, Soviet and United States aviation and lend-lease aircraft. He has collaborated with many U.S. Navy (USN) veterans PV-1 Ventura squadrons and family members. He is also the creator of NorPacWar.com.
