Ernie Pyle Monument to Ernie Pyle after unveiling and dedication on Ie Shima
The memorial has a plaque with a relief of the statue of liberty and below a brass plaque with the inscription "At this spot the 77th Infantry Division lost a buddy, Ernie Pyle, 18 April 1945". During the unveiling and dedication, the wreath was placed by Brigadier General Edwin R. Randle, assistant commander of the 77th Infantry Division.
