Major Lofton R. Henderson in uniform On June 4, 1942 pilot SBD-2 Dauntless 2129 Missing In Action (MIA) during the Battle of Midway. Afterwards, three airfields were named "Henderson Field" in his honor: Lunga Point Airfield (Henderson Field, Bomber 1) on Guadalcanal plus Midway Airfield (Eastern Island Airfield, NAS Midway Islands, Henderson Field) on Eastern Island and later Sand Island Airfield (Henderson Field) in Midway Atoll.
