Harold Llewellyn Jones

Click For EnlargementOur beloved husband and father slipped away from us on October 21, 2009. Harold (Lew), was born in Valley Wells, TX on January 1st, 1921. Harold Jones was an important figure beginning in the CCC's in his teens. He subsequently joined the US Navy in 1939. He was stationed at Pearl Harbour aboard the USS Enterprise as a gunner and was a veteran of many pivotal carrier battles in the South Pacific, including Guadalcanal, Midway and Dolittles raid on Tokyo. Harold Jones was a gunner in a dive bomber and dove on enemy carriers which had previously attacked Pearl Harbor. Jones is also accredited with shooting down Japanā€˜s leading Ace pilot. This was the beginning of his carreer as a pilot and Navy officer.

He attended George Washington University and Navy flight school in Pensacola. He was training pilots in Ft. Lauderdale, FL where he met Mitzi, who became his wife. He was a cosmopolitan gentleman who was comfortable in many world locales. He retired to Unionville, NV in 1971, where he and his wife ran a country bed and breakfast for many years.

Lew is survived by his wife, Mitzi; four children, Karen, David, Polly and Martha; grandchildren, Paul, Jessica, and Megan; great-grandchildren, Myla, Mark and Waylon. He will be missed by all who love him and who know him
