Letter Regarding Lt. Robert Keown
"Mrs. Bertha Keown, office deputy in the Sheriff's Office, received a letter last week from the commanding officer of her son, Lieut. Robert Keown, who is missing in action in New Guinea, which is encouraging.
The commander states that Lieut. Keown and other airmen were on a mission over an enemy target and when their mission was completed they ran into heavy clouds and he could not say what happened to the brave fighter pilot or his ship, but the officer wrote encouragingly, stating that often pilots are forced down or have to bail out over this wild jungle territory and they may be safe but long times elapses in many cases before they can get back and make their safety known. Mrs. Keown is very brave in the matter and assumes the view that his safe and return alive to his command or country at some time in the future."
