Chief Water Tender Oscar V. Peterson in uniform
On May 7, 1942 aboard USS Neosho (AO-23) severely injured when the oiler was bombed by Japanese D3A Val dive bombers. Leading the repair party, he managed to close bulkhead stop valves and in so doing received additional burns and earned the Medal of Honor and died of his wounds on May 13, 1942.
