Roy Gilbert Preston
Australian Army Intelligence Topographic

Photos and information via Maurice Austin

Roy Gilbert Preston was born May 21, 1915. Enlisted in the Australian Army on November 8, 1941 in Royal Park, Victoria. Australian Army Number VX65652

Based at Torokina, he was responsible for the Torokina Times newspaper, that generally ran eight pages. Although 'only' a clerk he was involved with the production of the weekly intelligence reports. Discharged from the Army on December 14, 1945.

He took home a box containing fascinating material. Preston died without decedents, and his papers and negatives (stored in a tobacco tin) was given to friend Maurice Austin.

Maurice Austin adds:
"We all only hold this sort of material in trust for the future so to be able to place scans into places of usefulness is my privilege. I had known him for some years and was his career in the last couple. Was a privilege to know him."
