P-40 Wreckage

P-40E Piloted by Rice
Impacted on hard ground at Yarrawonga near Darwin. Shot down after takeoff on February 19, 1942 by Zeros attacking the airfield. Pilot was Rice who survived. I found the complete rudder off this one about half a mile away that was shot off during the attack.

Located in an impact crater in 1982.
Shot down Cox peninsular N.T.

Point Blaze Zero

A6M2 Zero
Bits of a Zero that crashed at high speed and disintegrated at Point Blaze about 60 miles SW of Darwin. Wreckage was recovered and is at the Darwin Museum.

G4M Betty Tail T-361
Shot down at high altitude and exploded over Cox Peninsula, Northern Territory. Wreckage goes for about 3km in a line from west to east. The heaviest parts (engines) are at the eastern end of the wreckage trail.
