Location Changi Prison is located in Changi at the eastern end of Singapore. Also known as Changi Prison Complex. Nearby was Selarang Barracks. Construction Built during 1936 by the British administration as a prisoner designed to hold up roughly 600 prisoners. Wartime History During World War II, after the Japanese occupation of Singapore, Changi Prison was used by the Japanese Army to detailed roughly 3,000 civilians with British Army Prisoners Of War (POW) detained at nearby Selarang Barracks which during the Pacific War was referred to as Changi POW Camp (Selarang Barracks).
