and B-25's pound the Lababia-Duali area on Nassau Bay.
June 29, 1943
(5th AF) B-25's bomb and strafe strong points along the Bitoi River
and A-20's pound a supply dump on the south side of Nassau Bay in preparation
for allied amphibious landings which are to begin during the night of 29/30
June.
June 30, 1943
(5th AF) In the morning, an American amphibious forces including 3 PT Boats, 29 LCVP landing craft, 1 LCV and two captured Japanese barges under the 2nd Engineer Special Brigade lands the U.S. Army, 41st Infantry Division (41st ID), 162nd Infantry Regiment (162nd IR) at Nassau Bay without opposition and established a beachhead but 18 landing craft were wrecked by pounding surf. Ashore, the soldiers push north towards the Bitoi River and south towards Tabali Creek. Troops make contact with enemy
forces in the Cape Dinga area south of Nassau Bay.
July 2, 1943
(Australian Army) The Allied invasion force "MacKechnie Force" holds firm a beachhead on Nassau Bay, and makes contact with Australian forces to the north.
July 12, 1943
